TASTING NOTES
Nose:
Honey sweetness & vanilla, followed by herbal-spicy aromas, a hint of grandma's furniture polish, notes of leather & tobacco, oranges, lemon drops and a hint of overripe fruit in the background
Taste:
the alcohol is only evident in the peppery attack, but is otherwise surprisingly well integrated, otherwise an oily mouthfeel dominates, which carries an incredible spiciness and fat herbal aromas, paired with a lot of cinnamon, creme brulee crust, peanuts & salted caramel, then dark ones appear Chocolate & nutty-salty notes, some pumpernickel, eventually drying out
finish:
medium length, slightly dry, with a mixture of woody bitterness, cocoa powder and partly bitter-like aromas
Conclusion:
A great sherry drama that seems more 'mature' and much more balanced than its age would suggest. The FARY LOCHAN makes it easy to discover - and you should definitely give it some air, time and some water to work out all the nuances properly
The Liquid Madness on this:
The Danes from Give have been at the start with their distillery since 2009. Scottish malt was used until 2014, since 2015 only local ingredients.
We managed to secure a cask from this distillery. Only the greats SMWS and Berry Bros & Rudd have managed to do this before. So we are only the third UA who can claim to release a bottling from this distillery. That alone will find us quite madness. But what makes the distillery so special that we just bought a barrel from this still small distillery, which many have not yet noticed? Well, the Danes not only know how to distill good whisky, but they are also the first to smoke their malt over nettle smoke. The owner knows this method from his native Funen, where, for example, cheese is smoked in this way. The distillery has a malt here that is not peated but nettle. If that isn't madness?
The malt we selected was distilled in 2014 and spent 7 years in a 1st fill Oloroso Sherry Cask. He's not smoky.
