At the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside, the... well.... exactly, the Benrinnes Distillery is busy and spoils us with delicious single malt.
It has been doing this since 1826, but not all the time..... In 1829 the flood came and destroyed it. Rebuilt 1835 as Lyne of Ruthrie, sold 1838 and finally renamed Benrinnes.
The triple distillation was unusual here and ensured mild, round whiskeys, even at cask strength.
Enough of the facts and figures, I have our new bottling in the glass......a Benrinnes from the Bourbon Cask. This is first noticeable in the beautiful rich gold tone.
59.3% is on the data sheet, but you won't find that in the nose at all.
Rather, the ten-year-old malt exudes an incredibly fruity note, a basket of apples and some pears are immediately noticeable.
Liquid herbal honey and some vanilla round it off.

It's creamy and soft on the tongue, the 59.3% briefly flashes peppery and spicy and is replaced by honey and fruit dessert in vanilla sauce. Some fudge and apple pie.
At the end it gets spicier, the barrel announces itself, also a light nuttiness paired with a hint of chocolate and orange comes through in the finish.
