No rye whiskey. No bourbon whiskey. No corn whiskey either. Westward is American single malt. This means that whiskey from Portland in the US state of Oregon is part of a category that is on the rise. It is distilled according to the "grain-to-glass principle" from barley of the region, the Pacific Northwest. Inspired by the beauty of nature, the single malt is now presented in a new design. The label and the custom-made bottle strikingly embody the distillery's strong connection to its wildly romantic homeland - noble copper embossing indicates the distillation process. An edgy, classy update that catches the eye.

The Westward Single Malt Whiskey Original is finding its way into the new bottle. The elegant, robust and fruity flagship of the distillery starts as a highly aromatic Pale Ale, fermented with Ale Yeast. Bottled in new, slightly charred US oak casks, the single malt unfolds in an extreme climate between hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. It needs at least, but often no more than three years for its powerful yet balanced maturity before the contents of mostly no more than 10-20 casks are married into small batches in a process playfully called “mingling”.

Tasting Notes:

Elegant, robust and fruity with creamy notes of vanilla and brown sugar. In addition, baking spices, lush fruit and sweet malt notes. Tobacco, dark chocolate and leathery notes characterize the finish.
